The image of the gathering of former American boxer Mike Tyson and the famous musician Khaled Muhammad – known as “DJ Khaled” – wearing Ihram clothes, in preparation for performing the rituals of Umrah, received wide interaction on social media platforms.
And through his account on the Instagram application, DJ Khaled – the American singer and music producer of Palestinian origin – published a picture that he collected with Mike Tyson and his father, and wrote, commenting on it, “We are on our way to Mecca, God blesses us.”
Khaled added, “More blessings to my brother Mike Tyson and his father. More love, more blessings, and more life. God is great.”
DJ Khaled published another video clip of him – yesterday, Friday – in front of the Holy Kaaba, crying with joy, as he indicated that this was “achieving what he wanted throughout his life by visiting the Grand Mosque in Mecca.”
Khaled also said – about seeing the Kaaba for the first time – “The second I arrived in Mecca, tears of joy flowed from my eyes. All my life I wanted to go to Mecca to pray and thank God for that. I prayed for the world and for more love, and more love.” Life, more peace, more joy, more happiness, more health and protection for all of us…God is great.
Tyson and Islam
Mike Tyson is a controversial black American boxer inside and outside the ring, nicknamed “Steel Mike” because of his ferocity and intimidating style of play. He held the record for the youngest boxer to win the world heavyweight boxing championship at the age of 20 years and 4 months.
In February 1992, Tyson was convicted of raping black beauty queen Desiree Washington, and was sentenced to 6 years in prison, 3 of which he spent in prison, before he was released.
During the period of imprisonment in the Indiana Youth Prison, Tyson began to think about the course of his life, and in this context he learned about Islam, embraced it, and changed his name to Malik Abdel Aziz.
And about this change, Tyson said, “Prison has eliminated my ego, and gave me the opportunity to get to know Islam and realize its tolerant teachings that revealed to me another life that has a different taste. Islam has provided me with a superior ability to be patient, and taught me to thank God even for calamities.”
