Small ax Is an upcoming anthology film series consisting of 5 different films. The film is directed by Steve McQueen, who also serves as the author of all five stories, along with Cortia Newland and Alastair Siddons. Small Axis is produced by BBC Studios and Amazon studio. Given all the outbreaks and movement like “Black Lives Matter”, this is a good time to release a show that the black community has been misbehaving with during all these years.
The short series consists of 5 different films: – Mangrove, Lovers Rock, Red, White and Blue, Alex Wheatle and Education. Five films are set between 1969–1982. The first film will arrive on November 20 and will be followed by the rest of the weekly releases. With many stories based on real life, this would be an interesting watch. Here are the stories: –
It centers on the story of Frank Critchlow who runs a restaurant called Mangrove in Notting Hill. Mangroves are full of local people, intellectuals, activists etc. The film will show how many raids were conducted by the police on a peaceful restaurant, which caused a lot of publicity between the protesters and the government.
Mangroves will be released on 20 November 2020.
2. lover’s rock
It is a romantic film that is in the midst of conflict in society. Lovers Rock follows black youth who were not present at London nightclubs, but found relief in music and housemates. The film will follow an erupting romance between a young couple in the 1980s.
Lovers Rock arrives on Prime Video on 27 November 2020.
Education is the third film in the Small X series, it focuses on a 12-year-old little boy named Kingsley, who is in awe of astronauts and rockets. One day he is called to the dean’s office and told that he needs to go to a different school, where he teaches children with “special needs”. Their parents are oblivious to this fact until it happens to every black child in their society. A group of women launch protests against officials who are depriving black children of their educational rights.
Education will arrive on 4 December 2020.
4. Alex Wheatle
The biographical drama is based on real-life award-winning writer Alex Wheatle. The story will take us on a journey to Alex Wheatle, who was brought up in a white foster home where he was constantly neglected until he was young. Upon reaching Brixton, his life takes a turn. He discovers the true value of himself and his life when he gets the companionship of his people and with this he finds his musical passion. The film is based on the famous Brixton Uprising in 1981.
Alex Wheatle will arrive on 11 December 2020.
5. Red, White and Blue
Red, White and Blue is the fifth and final film of Small X Miniseries. It follows the real-life story of Leroy Logan. The film will focus on Logan’s life. He works as a forensic scientist with a longing to pursue more than his desk job. His life takes a turn when he sees his father assaulting policemen. Logan remembers his past where all he wanted to do in childhood was become a police officer so that he could stop racism from happening. He actually pursues her after this incident despite several warnings by her father. But eventually finds himself at the butt of all the racial slaters of his job in the metropolitan police force.
The film will be released on 18 December 2020.
