Modric warns against thinking of one player called “Messi”

Luka Modric, the Croatian national team player, said that his country must play the “match of a lifetime” to beat the Argentine national team led by Lionel Messi today, in the semi-finals of the World Cup, which is currently being held in Qatar.

And while Modric knows that stopping Messi will be decisive, Modric warned the Croatian national team, led by coach Zlatko Dalic, not to become focused on one player.

“I want to play, but not against one player,” Modric said in an interview with RTVE.

He added, “Of course, Messi is an excellent player. We will have problems to stop him, but we are ready and will do our best.”

And he added, “Argentina is a great team. We will try to play the best game in the tournament, the best game of our lives. I hope this will be enough to reach the final.”

Few expected that Croatia would repeat its heroic performance in 2018, in the World Cup in Qatar, and while Modric believed that this was appropriate for them, he revealed that he had warned his Real Madrid colleagues about the quality of the Croatian national team players before the start of the tournament.

“It’s normal that everyone looks at the big teams,” Modric said. And since we are from the small teams, no one counted on us.

He emphasized: «But we do not mind that others are candidates for the title while we are in the shadows. We can just do our best and try hard, and that is our strength.”
