BHUBANESWAR, India, Jan 12, 2021 / PRNewswire / – The commitment of a patient as well as doctors to the health of humanity is demonstrated as an immense measure in 2020, as the epidemic engulfed the world. Odisha’s global doctors community began work on a voluntary mission to help the Odia people by working alongside the Odisha government.
Odisha doctors in North America OSA-HWG (The Odisha Society of the Americans’ Health and Wellness Group) launched plans last year to involve themselves in the health care of the Odia population in every possible way. They are now working locally to provide the means and expertise to treat common people. President of OSA-HWG, Dr. Devashish Ray Together with other physicians formed a global team, now called ODIA (International Association of Odisha Doctors).

Popular Odia film star Sabaskahi Mishra, who has helped thousands of migrant workers during the difficult months of lockdown and Kovid crisis, will lead Odia’s efforts locally in Odisha. As ODIA’s global ambassador, he is implementing the mission of doctors by collecting data, liaising with the Odia government, and monitoring grassroots progress.
Under the Golden Parachute Program, 3 mobile vans have been distributed to the Government of Odisha, Health Department for Kovid testing and screening. Vans are future proof and can be deployed for vaccination. The vans are operational in Ganjam and adjoining districts of Odisha. Other immediate needs are met and hundreds of pulse oximeters and essential medicine are distributed to the needy.
The ODIA mission is to promote the health and well-being of the people of Odisha by sharing knowledge and expertise, including telemedicine facilities. It also provides professional development and provides vocational training in healthcare for the people of Odisha.
“The mission is divided into sub-projects and comes top of the preventive health list. This includes immunization, women’s cancer screening, maternal health promotion, anemia and nutritional screening, obesity awareness, dental and eye care camps. Our ambitious program will focus on infant mortality, women’s health care and immunization of elderly people, “Dr. Ray said.
The ODIA is also setting up teams to respond to emergency situations and to prepare guidelines for emergency relief teams.
Moving forward under the Golden Parachute Project, ODIA is adopting villages for health care, improving water sanitation, roads and telecommunications.
The ODIA mission has received the support of eminent people. Tech guru and pioneer of Indian telecommunications Sam Pitroda Has offered unconditional support to the ODIA mission. He wants to see “software using local and alternative medicines as healthcare skills”. He says, “Use local knowledge and best global medical practices to treat people. Telemedicine and skills training of local employees will greatly assist in this noble endeavor.”
MP and philanthropist, Achyuta Samata, has announced unconditional support for ODIA projects and has offered adoption of a village to implement the Golden Parachute Program. I am happy to see the efforts of Odia doctors around the world to help meet the health needs of the people of Odia.
