The world number five in tennis, Belarusian Arina Sabalenka, today, Wednesday, reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open, the first major tournament, the “Grand Slam”, after defeating the world number 64, Croatian Donna Vekic, in a match that lasted one hour and 49 minutes.
Sabalenka managed to win the first set with difficulty (6-3), due to the good performance of her Croatian counterpart, and in the second set, the Belarusian qualified after winning 6-2.
In her comment after the match, Sabalenka indicated that reaching the semi-finals is “a special matter” for her, expressing her happiness with the victory and the wonderful atmosphere.
The Belarusian player will face, in the next round, the 45th-ranked Polish player Magda Linnet, who in turn defeated the 31st-ranked Czech Karolina Pliskova by defeating her 6-3, 7-5.
